Old postcards from Norway..

Today’s two old postcards shows the different landscapes of the western part of Norway. The first card is from an island called Herdla a part of the community where I live - Askøy. Under the 2nd world war most of the island was an airbase and airport for the Germans (!) After the war it could have been the new airport of Bergen but other location was found. Today most of the island is a golfcourse (!!)

The second card is from the road up to the mountain plateau Hardangervidda. The text on the card says: The new road to Måbødalen. The road was new when the card was published, but later they did build a safer and improved road so if you are heading this way with car you mostly drive in tunnels.

England...

The postcards I will show you today is from England, bought in London on a postcard show called BIPEX - British International Postcard Exhibition, which is a must for postcards fans. For those who are interested - and in London - this years BIPEX is from 3rd - 5th september.
T
he first card is of Prince of Wales with family in early and happy days. This had a tragic history which ended with the carcrash in Paris that killed Princess Diana. But the postcard is a happy memory of the Princess and a happy family.
The second card is a advertising card for London Underground - the tube. It must be the best underground system in the world, but it need a lot of refurbishing because its very old.

Happy New Year

A new year, with new opportunities – and I will try to update my blog more often.... Today I will show you two old postcards. The first card is of a girl from the tourist-district «Hardanger», and it was sent as a christmascard. The writings of the front says «Merry christmas and a Happy new year» - and this greeting goes to all of you.

The next card is from the place where I live, the card is very old so all the buildings on the card is not here today, even the name on the card «Follesøy» is not in use, today the name is «Follese». To all new(!) readers I can tell that Follese is on an island called Askøy close to Bergen (the 2nd largest city in Norway).

Ships again,,,

As you all may have noticed I do like boats/ships – and to travel on them. This time I have travelled on the Oslo – Kiel (Germany) route. The route have been quite popular for many years, and the two postcards shows the development of the ships from the 70s till today.

The first card shows «Kronprins Harald» who was build in Germany in 1975 and could carry about 1000 passengers. This ship sailed on this route until 1987, when the ship was sold to a company on Nassau Bahamas. The next ship was a new «Kronprins Harald» which sailed until 2007, when it was sold to an Irish company owned by a company in Nassau (!). In 2004 the ship on the second card - «Color Fantasy» - started sailing.

This was the ship I travelled on one months ago. It was quite an experience like beeing on a cruise ship, with several restaurants, bars, an English pub, a showtheatre, many shops and much more. The ship could accomodate 2700 passengers and they had lots of space. I did really fall in love with that ship, so this was not the last trip with «Color Fantasy».
